The reaction of oxalic acid in the superacidic system HF/SbF5 leads depende
nt on the reaction temperature to different results. At -75 degrees C monop
rotonation to HO(O)CC(OH)(2)+SbF6- (1) occurs, whereas at -40 degrees C a s
alt of the composition (HO)(2)CC(OH)(2)(2+)(SbF6-)(2) . 4H(2)O (2) is forme
d. The salts are characterised by vibrational spectroscopy and their crysta
l structures.
