Perioperative severe bleedings have been documented in 10 to 20 % of operat
ions, in 25 % caused by hemostatic defects. Accurate preoperative questions
of history with previous bleeding tendency and special diagnostic procedur
es such as laboratory analysis and bleeding time could help find the specia
l disorder. 5 % of patients have a hemostatic disorder. As hemostatic drug,
desmopressin (DDAVP) is well known in the therapy of thrombopathies. It is
the treament of choice far patients with the congenital bleeding disorder,
the van Willebrand's disease. Antifibrinolytic drugs also have a role in a
phased therapy plan, which should be concise and clear.
