Abstract
The activity of the pediatric emergency room at a hospital in the Reunion I sland was studied prospectively from October 1, 1997, to January I, 1998. T he organization of the emergency room and the setting are described briefly . As compared to France as a whole, the prevalence of patients brought dire ctly to the emergency room was lower and the admission rate was higher. Mea ns of meeting the increasing demand for pediatric emergency room care are d iscussed with special reference to noncontinental areas of France.
