Massive subchorionic thrombohematoma (MST) is an uncommon condition bu
t is associated with poor perinatal prognosis and intra-uterine growth
retardation (1, 2). We report a case of MST associated with a large s
ubchorionic cyst, which was complicated with intra-uterine growth reta
rdation and transverse lie. We have not found a similar report which h
ad serial ultrasound scan demonstrating the evolution from a mild hete
rogenic echodense placental mass to a large subchorionic cyst. The pur
pose of this report is to highlight the importance of early recognitio
n of this condition on ultrasound scan, which might otherwise escape d
etection on routine clinical examination.
