Abstract
Many low-molecular-weight peptides of microbial origin are synthesized nonr ibosomally on large multifunctional proteins, termed peptide synthetases, T hese enzymes contain repeated building blocks in which several defined doma ins catalyze specific reactions of peptide synthesis. The order of these do mains within the enzyme determines the sequence and structure of the peptid e product.
