Abstract
The Nevados de Chillan and Antuco stratovolcanoes (36 degrees-37 degrees S, southern Andes) erupt high-Al basalts, andesites, dacites and rhyolites. T he lava series has no indication of contamination by the continental crust. Therefore, its differentiation is very well explained by crystal fractiona tion of the mineral phases present as phenocrysts (plagioclase, olivine, cl inopyroxene, orthopyroxene, magnetite, ilmenite and apatite), taking into a ccount major and trace elements. A fractionation model is presented here. ( C) 1999 Academie des sciences.
