Ea. Podzorova et al., Removal of pollutants from municipal wastewater by electron-beam treatmentin an aerosol flow, HIGH ENERG, 33(5), 1999, pp. 283-286
The removal of inorganic and organic pollutants from municipal wastewater b
y electron-beam treatment in an aerosol flow was examined in detail. As fou
nd by atomic absorption spectroscopy and chromatography-mass spectrometry,
the concentrations of pollutants (heavy metal ions; phosphates; sulfates; c
hlorides; carbonates; phenol, naphthalene, biphenyl, cholesterol, and their
derivatives; alkylbenzenes; sulfur-containing compounds; etc.) became lowe
r than the maximum permissible values for service water as a result of this
treatment (a dose of several kilograys). The majority of the above compoun
ds was trapped by the precipitate formed upon irradiation.
