Abstract
Stacking, assisted by hydrophobic interaction, has been investigated in a s eries of cyanine dyes with varied alkyl chain length. Both plane-to-plane a nd end-to-end stacking have been observed simultaneously in the presence of surfactants. Slippage in stacking due to functional group of surfactants h as been proposed.
