Adsorption of styryl pyridinium dyes on CTAB treated silica

Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) adsorbs on silica surface and modifie s the surface. The adsorption behaviour of some monochromophoric and bischr omophoric styryl pyridinium dyes on CTAB treated silica (CTAB-silica) has b een investigated. The adsorption model proposed by Gu and Zhu has been util ized to explain the type of adsorption isotherm. A tow coverage of dye on C TAB-silica has been explained through apolar bonding, The rate constants of adsorption have also been determined. The adsorption behaviour of the dyes on CTAB-silica has been compared with that on silica, alkali treated silic a and PEG treated silica surfaces.
