Application of IR thermography to NDT of art monuments

During their existence, art monuments suffer the permanent, slow, but destr uctive action of environmental factors, some of which may be associated wit h mankind's interventions. Knowing the causes which have determined the degradation or the partial or total destruction plays an important role in assessing the condition of a m onument from the viewpoints of resistance, modifications in the constructio n materials and structure. The article presents the technical advantages of utilising a thermographic testing system to find faults in the brickwork o f a more than 60 year-old church, considered as a jewel of Byzantine art.
