Abstract
The American Water Works Association Research Division Microbial Contaminan t Committee reviewed three viral and three protozoan microorganisms and one se to bacterial toxins of greatest concern to the water industry: enterovi rus, calicivirus and Norwalk virus, and hepatitis; Cyclospora cayetanensis, microsporidia, and Toxoplasma gondii, adn cyanobacterial toxins. To help t he water quality specialist, this report describes the virus, protozoan, or toxin; reviews its health effects; summarizes information on its occurrenc e, waterborne outbreaks, and water treatment; discusses analytical procedur es; and outlines needed research.
