Neurogenic inflammation is due to at least two mechanisms which interact: 1
. the activation of the sympathetic nervous system; 2, the antidromic relea
se of neuropeptides from sensory afferent end organs. These mechanisms indu
ce the modification of peripheral microenvironment characteristic of inflam
mation. The pathophysiological and clinical significance of neurogenic infl
ammation in muscle pain, both in visceral and somatic structures, are exami
ned.
