This paper analyzes the experimental data on the effect of a binary CCL4-py
ridine solution on the position of the IR absorption bands of the valence v
ibrations of an amino group of two substituents of N-methyl phthalimide. On
the basis of a quantitative study of the contributions of linear and nonli
near nonspecific solvation in the formation of the indicated bands, the mic
rostructure is established for a van der Waals complex of composition 1:1 b
etween molecules of 3-amino-N-methylphthalimide and pyridine. The assumptio
n formulated earlier is confirmed, that local nonlinear dipole-dipole inter
actions play an important role in the processes of complex formation that t
ake place in the liquid and gaseous states of the substances. (C) 1999 The
