Abstract
3Y-TZP/20 mass% La(Co0.5Fe0.5 (Fe0.9Al0.1) (11)) O-19 composites were succe ssfully synthesized in situ during sintering from a mixture of 3 mol% Y2O3- ZrO2, La(Fe0.9Al0.1) O-3 Fe2O3 Al2O3 and CoO powders. Platelike La (Co0.5Fe 0.5 (Fe0.9Al0.1) 11) O-19 crystals were grown stably in a 3Y-TZP matrix ove r a temperature range of 1200 to 1325 degrees C, which is wider than that o f La(Fe, Al)(12)O-19. Vickers hardness was 9.0 GPa for the composite sinter ed from 1150 to 1325 degrees C. 3Y-TZP/20 mass% La(Co0.5Fe0.5 (Fe0.9Al0.1)( 11)) O-19 composite, which was sintered at 1325 degrees C, exhibited a frac ture strength of 630 MPa. The composite which was sintered from 1200 to 132 5 degrees C exhibited a constant saturation magnetization of 7.2 emu/g. The composite which was sintered at 1225 degrees C exhibited a maximum coerciv ity of 3.8 kOe.
