Abstract
We present a calculation of the kinetic electron emission induced by slow i ons based on a nonlinear treatment of the excitation of conduction band ele ctrons. The dependence on the atomic number of the projectile of the backwa rd and forward electron yields is analyzed. The results are compared with e xperimental data obtained on carbon foils.
