The spectra of lanthanum and cerium were photographed on a 10.7 m grazing i
ncidence spectrograph in the 80 Angstrom-500 Angstrom region using a trigge
red spark source. The La XIII and Ce XIV spectra were investigated. Earlier
analysis of La XIII was confirmed and seven additional lines were classifi
ed in this spectrum. In the Ce XIV spectrum the ground state 4d(9) D-2 Sepa
ration was found to be 28401 cm(-1) and seventeen levels were established i
n the 4d(8) 5p configuration. Nineteen lines were classified in this spectr
um. Least squared fitted (LSF) and relativistic Hartree Fock (HFR) calculat
ions were carried out to interpret the spectra.
