Abstract
Using molecular mechanics, we study the development of turbulence in a dens e gas. The gas, is taken to be water vapor molecules at 150 degrees C. To a ssure high density, we limit molecular motions to within a fixed, closed bo undary. This leads naturally to a cavity problem. Primary vortices are gene rated in the cavity for wallspeeds V = -24 -120, -600 Angstrom/ps. Turbulen t flow is generated with wallspeed V = -3000 Angstrom/ps. The mechanisms fo r primary vortex generation are clearly delineated, as are those for turbul ent flow. Ln addition, the onset of turbulence is determined to within acce ptable experimental error to be V = -2065 Angstrom/ps.
