Simple methods for preparing hitherto unknown iridium(III) trinitrotriaquo
and iridium(III) trinitrotrichloro complexes were developed. The purity of
the compounds was proved by high-resolution (N-15, N-14) NMR, electronic ab
sorption, and IR spectroscopies; solid substances were characterized by ele
mental analysis. The quantitative data on the acidity of fac-[Ir(NO2)(3)(H2
O)(3)] are presented. The changes in the N-15 NMR chemical shifts of the ir
idium(III) trinitrotriaquo complex are discussed as functions of pH.
