Synthesis and properties of iridium(III) trinitrotriaquo complex and its derivatives

Simple methods for preparing hitherto unknown iridium(III) trinitrotriaquo and iridium(III) trinitrotrichloro complexes were developed. The purity of the compounds was proved by high-resolution (N-15, N-14) NMR, electronic ab sorption, and IR spectroscopies; solid substances were characterized by ele mental analysis. The quantitative data on the acidity of fac-[Ir(NO2)(3)(H2 O)(3)] are presented. The changes in the N-15 NMR chemical shifts of the ir idium(III) trinitrotriaquo complex are discussed as functions of pH.
