R. Pellizzoni et al., ANALYSIS AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ADJUSTABLE-RATE MULTILEVEL CODED MODULATION SYSTEM, IEE proceedings. Communications, 144(1), 1997, pp. 1-5
The authors describe the design of a multilevel coded modulation syste
m. The main goal is to achieve a high degree of rate flexibility, with
the same hardware allowing for the implementation of several coded sc
hemes. This is obtained by associating a hierarchy of punctured convol
utional codes with the partition chain of a square-lattice signal cons
tellation. After discussing the rationale behind their design choices
and implementation details, the authors analyse the system by computin
g its error probabilities, and show experimental results.
