Abstract
An analysis of quasar spectra yields highly reliable constraints on the pos sible variation of the fine-structure constant alpha and the proton-to-elec tron mass ratio mu during cosmological evolution from the epoch correspondi ng to a cosmological red shift z approximate to 2.8 (i.e., similar to 10(10 ) years ago) to the current epoch (z=0): < 2x10(-14) yr(-1) and < 2x10(-14) yr(-1).
