Rkh. Kuo et al., Experimental investigation of mixing in aperiodic heterogeneous porous media: Comparison with stochastic transport theory, TRANS POR M, 37(2), 1999, pp. 169-182
An electrochemical technique was used to measure concentration distribution
s in an aperiodic heterogeneous model for comparison with a stochastic tran
sport theory. Four identical columns, each filled with a homogeneous distri
bution of glass beads, were threaded together to create a single model with
aperiodic heterogeneity. The layers in the model were arranged in differen
t ways providing 24 realizations of the permeability distribution. Comparis
ons between experimental moment data and moments of simulated mean concentr
ation distributions showed that the model was not able to accurately predic
t experimentally observed mixing behavior.
