Abstract
The O-chain polysaccharide (OPS) of the lipopolysaccharide of Xanthomonas c ampestris pv. begoniae GSPB 525 was found to contain L-rhamnose and L-xylos e in the ratio 1:0.6. The OPS lacked strict regularity because of nonstoich iometric xylosylation of the main rhamnan chain. Based on methylation analy sis, Smith degradation, and H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy, including COSY, TOCSY,NOESY,and H-detected H-1,C-13 heteronuclear multiple-quantum coherenc e (HMQC) experiments, the following structure of the OPS was established: [GRAPHICS] (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
