Ws. Kuo, Synergistic effects of combination of photolysis and ozonation on destruction of chlorophenols in water, CHEMOSPHERE, 39(11), 1999, pp. 1853-1860
Synergistic effects including TOC elimination, ozone consumption and microt
oxicity reduction for combination of photolysis and ozonation compared to t
hose of direct photolysis and ozonation alone on destruction of chloropheno
ls including 2-chlorophenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol were stu
died. It was found that the synergistic effects of combination of photolysi
s and ozonation increased obviously with increasing initial pH of solution
to basic pH levels. Results showed that the synergistic effects of photolyt
ic ozonation under the conditions imposed was notable with mineralization r
ate enlarging more than 100%, oxidation index (OI) decreasing 50%, and micr
otoxicity being reduced by 30%, indicating that the potentialities of photo
lytic ozonation compared to direct photolysis and ozonation alone was remar
kable for treatment of industrial wastewater containing chlorophenols. (C)
