Statements of the form "Osorno is in Chile" were presented in colors that m
ade them easy or difficult to read against a white background and participa
nts judged the truth of the statement. Moderately visible statements were j
udged as true at chance level, whereas highly visible statements were judge
d as true significantly above chance level. We conclude that perceptual flu
ency affects judgments of truth. (C) 1999 Academic Press.
