Eutrophic reservoirs produce many management problems for both water supply
and recreational management, which are only expensively solved. A range of
eco-technical methods have been used over the past 10 years to control pho
sphorus and nuisance algal bloom levels. Three case studies are used to sho
w that these methods may be succesful but, if used without careful monoitor
ing or controls, or if not applied in combination with each other or with o
ther techniques, their practical value and benefit-cost ratio may not be ap
parent.
