Abstract
The fractal characteristics of fracture surface of gray cast iron has been studied and the fractal dimensions of tensile fracture surfaces of the iron produced under variable technological conditions were measured with vertic al cross section method. A new parameter a%, namely percent of primary dend rite in fracture profile, was proposed. Results show that fractal dimension (D-F) increases with the increase in a%, Meanwhile, there exists an expone ntial relationship between a% or D-F and tensile strength, The effect of ch emical components on the fractal dimension of the fracture surface was disc ussed, Finally, the fractal model of fracture surface of gray iron was prop osed.
