H. Nakamura et al., An investigation of steel plate-cast iron hybrid casting process for recycling of low level radioactive metal waste, INT J CAST, 11(5), 1999, pp. 339-343
Decommissioning of nuclear facilities will generate a large amount of low l
evel wastes. In order to utilize the waste, a new casting process suitable
for recycling radioactive metallic waste has been investigated through part
ial and cubic model tests, aiming at the fabrication of a waste container.
To simulate the experiments by calculations two commercial software were jo
intly used: JS-CAST (FDM) for the solidification analysis and MARC (FEM) fo
r the distortion analysis. Solidification analysis considered flow of molte
n metal was in good agreement with the test results. Maximum deformation of
the cubic castings occurred in the center part of each plane and the displ
acement in the inside direction agreed well with the calculated one.
