Me. Haque et al., Growth performance and meat yield characteristics of native naked neck andtheir crosses with exotic chicken, J APPL AN R, 16(1), 1999, pp. 81-86
Growth performance at different ages from day-old to 17 weeks and meat yiel
d at 12 weeks of age were studied on 392 chicks of either sex and 28 cocker
els of 7 genotypes of Naked neck Desi (NaD), Rhode Island Red (RIR), White
Leghorn (WL), Fayoumi (Fy) and their crosses (NaD x RIR, NaD x WT, and Nad
x Fy), respectively. Among crossbreds highest (P<0.01) day-old weight was f
ound in NaDRIR followed by NaDWL and NaDFy. Highest body weight gain and be
st feed conversion efficiency was found irt NaDRIR followed by NaDFy and Na
DWL at 17 weeks of age. Highest breast meat was produced in NaDWL followed
by NaDRIR and NaDFy. NaD was the best (P<0.05) ill total meat yield per cen
t among all genotypes. Among crossbreds growth and meat yield respectively,
were better in NaDRIR and NaDWL than other genotype. It was concluded that
, Na germplasm had a positive effect on growth and meat yield of chicken.
