The supramolecular host molecule '-tris(ruthenocenylmethyl)-1,4,7-tria
zacyclononane perchlorate [LH] ClO4 was prepared and its molecular str
ucture was determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. The guest prot
on was localized on one of the aza atoms of the macrocycle (N-H : 0.71
Angstrom). Cyclic voltammetric measurement displays an irreversible o
xidation wave at 0.84 V and is attributable to the oxidation of Ru-II
to Ru-III of the appended metallocenes. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
