The odd polyamide series is shown to be a new class of ferroelectric polyme
ric materials based on the demonstration of the J-E and D-E hysteresis loop
s of the oriented and unoriented odd polyamide films. Both the remanent pol
arization (P-r) and coercive field (E-c) of the odd polyamides linearly inc
rease with increasing amide content of the molecules. The ferroelectric res
ponse of the samples can be greatly enhanced by uniaxial drawing at room te
mperature.
