Evolution of the Journal: Early history and overview

The new Editor-in-Chief of the Acoustical Society of America gives an edito rial discussion of the history of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. Emphasis is given to the earlier years in the Journal's 70 year hi story and to the evolution of the Office of Editor-in-Chief. A dominant dri ving force: throughout the history of the Journal has been that of fulfilli ng the Society's purpose-to increase and diffuse the knowledge of acoustics and to promote its practical applications.
