Abstract
Studies by field ion microscopy are reported of the structure of tungsten s pecimens, irradiated by high intensity ion flux (similar to 10(22) ions/cm( 2) per s) produced in a laser plasma of lead. Amorphousness of the tip spec imen was observed; the types of defects produced are assessed. The ultimate mechanical properties of irradiated tip specimens are determined.
