Abstract
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) Tracker Collaboration has recently finalise d the design of the tracking detector. After characterising the detector la yout, we review in detail the algorithms developed for track and vertex rec onstruction. We discuss the reconstruction capability for several benchmark event topologies and assess the projected performance of the CMS tracking detector. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
