We measured the 0 degrees polarization transfer of the H-2((p) over right a
rrow, (n) over right arrow)pp reaction used to produce a high-intensity, mo
noenergetic neutron beam. The 0(+) --> 0(+) reaction C-14((p) over right ar
row, (n) over right arrow)N-14(2.31) has been used to calibrate a high-effi
ciency polarimeter, which in turn was used to measure the polarization tran
sfer in H-2((p) over right arrow (n) over right arrow)pp. With this data th
e uncertainty on the polarization of the 70 MeV neutron beam, used for many
different studies at PSI, is reduced to 1.1%. The data are compared to pre
dictions of Faddeev calculations based on realistic nucleon-nucleon interac
tions. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
