Search for baryonia front a measurement of monochromatic pi(0) mesons in antiproton-deuterium annihilation at rest - art. no. 035204

Using modularized NaI(Tl) detectors, we carried out a high-statistics measu rement of inclusive pi(0) spectra in antiproton annihilation at rest in a l iquid D-2 target. At the statistical significance above 4 sigma, we did not see any narrow pi(0) peaks due to the production of B = baryonium or simil ar narrow states in <(p)over bar d> --> pi(0) BNs, (N-s being a spectator n ucleon) or <(p)over bar d> --> pi(0) B. The 4 sigma upper limit for the yie lds (or branching ratios) per annihilation was 2 X 10(-2) -2 X 10(-3) for t he baryonia with a mass (M-B) of 1700- 1100 MeV/c(2) and a width smaller th an 9 (at M-B similar to 1700 MeV/c(2)) to 40 (M-B similar to 1100 MeV/c(2)) MeV/c(2).
