A new neutral rhenium(V)-oxo complex with tridentate Schiff base (SNO-CH3),
derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxyacetophenone with dithiocarbazic
acid methyl ester (H2N-NH-C(=S)SCH3) was prepared by a substitution reacti
on on the square pyramidal ionic complex [ReOCl4][NBu4]. Reacting the rheni
um complex [(ReO)-O-v(SNO-CH3)Cl] 1 with lithium iodide (LLI) allows the fo
rmation of the iodo homologous rhenium(V)-oxo complex [(ReO)-O-v(SNO-CH3)I]
2. Compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, NMR spe
ctra and mass spectrometry (FAB). The structure of [(ReO)-O-v(SNO-CH3)I] 2
was determined by single X-ray diffraction methods. The coordination around
rhenium is distorted square pyramidal with an apical double bonded oxo ato
m [Re=O: 1.660 Angstrom] and the basal ligands bend away from the oxo group
