Abstract
V21 is a patented bonding material which has been incorporated into pulpsto ne design developed by Norton Canada. Trials on two V21 bonded 70 sit stone s (one with a helical groove) began in March 1997 at Abitibi-Consolidated, Fort Frances, ON. The over-all objective of the trials was to determine if any specific energy savings or production increases world be evident when c omparing the performance of a regularly bonded 70 grit stone (VG bond groov ed) and two 70 grit stones containing the V21 bond material. Physical and o ptical properties of the pulp were also monitored for comparison. Prelimina ry results show extended pattern durability and some production increases. Pulp properties were not significantly affected by the use of the V21 bond material.
