Abstract
A novel thermosensitive hydrogel with high mechanical strength was obtained by grafting N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) onto polypropylene using a prei rradiation grafting method. The effect of radiation dose, dose rate, grafti ng temperature and reaction time on the grafting degree and properties of s welling-deswelling is discussed. Water absorption of the grafted polypropyl ene film could be switched on and off swiftly by control of temperature. Th e microstructure of grafted ultra thin porous PP film was studied with scan ning electron microscope. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserve d.
