Abstract
The electronic structure of vanadium in an Fe/V (001) superlattice, ex posed to a 100 torr hydrogen pressure, was investigated using soft-x-r ay emission spectroscopy and first-principles band-structure calculati ons. We present x-ray emission spectra from the pure superlattice and from the hydrogenated superlattice with a H/V atomic ratio of similar to 0.5. No band narrowing from the out-of-plane uniaxial lattice expan sion is observed in the V L-alpha-emission spectra and both experiment s and calculations show that new states appear at 6-7 eV below the Fer mi level.
