Trivalent cation-doped sodium zirconium phosphates Na1-xMxZr2-xP3O12 (M: In
, Yb, Er, Y, Dy, Tb, and Gd; 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal t
o 2) were prepared, and their solubility Limit and electrical conductivity
were examined. There exist two types of NASICON-related phases, previously
reported (M-NZP) and newly observed ones (NMP; x = 1.0-1.9 for M = Yb, Er,
Y, Dy, and Tb). NMP is a metastable phase and easily absorbs water. Arrheni
us plots show linearity within the M-NZP phase region while some kinks with
in the NMP phase region, indicating the difference of the conduction mechan
ism between both phases, (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved
