S. Brown et K. Steele, Nurse-mediated serum cholesterol reduction and health locus of control - adevice for targeting health promotion?, BR J GEN PR, 49(443), 1999, pp. 467-468
Varying intensities of nurse-mediated health education advice were administ
ered to subjects over a three-month period. Mean serum total cholesterol wa
s calculated for each group at the outset and completion of the study. A mu
ltidimensional health locus of control (MHLC) scales questionnaire was self
-completed by subjects at the outset. A highly significant association betw
een internality and reduction in serum total cholesterol in the high-intens
ity intervention group was observed. The completion of a MHLC scale questio
nnaire may assist health professionals in identifying which subjects may mo
st benefit from high-intensity health education advice when raised serum fe
tal cholesterol is prevalent.
