The cation-exchange reaction between sodium montmorillonite and tetradecylt
rimethylammonium bromide serving as a stabilizing agent in a palladium hydr
osol led to the formation of alkylammonium montmorillonite with simultaneou
s immobilization of the palladium nanoparticles in the organoclay host; the
Pd-organoclay proved to be catalytically active in olefin hydrogenation in
the liquid phase.
