A mathematical model for the motion of a granular material in a smooth
rotating drum is proposed. The influence of the drum angle of inclina
tion, its radius, rate of rotation, and the material volume flow rate
on the linear velocity of the material and on the percentage of the dr
um volume filled with the material (fillage) is discussed. The calcula
ted results agree well with experimental data.
