The only first hand account we have in English, concerning the Burmese cult
ivation of winged bean Psophocarpus tetragonolobus for its edible tubers, w
as written over ninety years ago. A survey carried out in the markets and g
rowing areas of Myanmar in January 1998 confirmed much of the derail of thi
s earlier report and demonstrated that the winged bean is an entrenched tho
ugh minor component of commercial agriculture in Upper Burma. It could be m
ore than this.
