Abstract
The monolithic integration of a tunable DBR laser and electroabsorption mod ulator is reported. A common strained multiquantum well active layer is use d for the three optical functions of this device. A tuning range of 7.4nm a nd an extinction ratio higher than 12dB for all the eight accessible channe ls are reported at 1.55 mu m.
