Abstract
A new colour edge detection operator that uses the shape information provid ed by the local probability distribution of the image is investigated and e valuated. The proposed approach is based on the relative entropy index (E-r el), which has long bean used as a distance measure between two distributio ns. The technique is tested on real and artificial images with very good re sults.
