Violence threatens or denies not only the health of those who are directly
affected but diminishes the whole human process. Neither the violent acts t
hemselves, nor the repercussions of these tragedies, are limited to one geo
graphic or social setting, and it is not just the frequency of violent acti
ons that threatens the health of the nation. It is the ripple effect that o
ccurs from each of these incidents that affects everyone. This article disc
usses the problem of national violence in the United States and examines pr
eventive programs.
