Abstract
This paper presents the experimental measurements of the transmittivity of commercial grade stearic acid. The effects of temperature and thickness on transmittance have been studied. The study indicates that the effect of tem perature on the transmittance of stearic acid in the liquid phase is not si gnificant. However, it is highly dependent on temperature during the solidi fication process. Because of its low thermal conductivity and high transmit tivity, it can be used as a transparent insulating material. (C) 1999 Elsev ier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
