Abstract
Residual stresses near the surface of a component can be well described by a superposition of exponentially distributed stresses. Knowledge of stress intensity factors for semi-elliptical cracks under such stresses allows to compute residual stress intensity factors for surface treated materials. St ress intensity factors for exponential functions with linear and quadratic arguments were derived by a superposition and extrapolation technique. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
