Dw. Pennington et al., THE APPLICATION OF MULTICOMPARTMENT MODELS FOR REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTALCOMPARISON OF PROCESS DESIGN ALTERNATIVES, Process safety and environmental protection, 75(B2), 1997, pp. 90-97
A number of methodologies have been presented in the Literature to mee
t the demand for environmental comparison of process design alternativ
es. However, the application of these methodologies in practice has be
en limited by subjectivity, uncertainty and resource requirements. in
this paper, a multi-compartment model, using readily available data an
d associated assumptions, is presented as a potential tool for environ
mental comparison of process design alternatives. The suitability of t
he model to provide a discriminatory basis for comparison is discussed
in terms of trends, quantitative uncertainty and limitations.
